Hello friends! I am Ms. Coen and I am one of the seventh grade mathematics teachers. This 2024-2025 school year will be my sixth year in education, my third year as a lead teacher, and my fourth year with KCIA. My first two years, I served with City Year (education nonprofit) as a mentor/tutor at Central Middle School in a seventh grade math class. Then, in the summer of 2021-2022 I transitioned to The Educator Academy (formally known as Kansas City Teacher Residency) to pursue my career in teaching where I did my residency year at KCIA in a sixth grade math class. I received my Bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Missouri in Political Science with a minor in International Studies and my Master’s degree in Education – Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Missouri – Kansas City. Some other facts about me is I am biracial – my mom is born and raised in the Philippines and my dad was born and raised in Kansas City, I play semi-pro slowpitch softball in my free time, watching Chief’s football, watching anime, hanging out with my friends, being a cat mom to Dilly and Spero, and traveling. This school year I will be the girl’s volleyball coach and the girl’s soccer coach. This school year, I am excited about seeing all of my students and continuing to create relationships with the motto “Love Does Work” in mine. Welcome KCIA families and I can’t wait to get to know your scholars! Go Phoenixes! 😀
