Hello friends! I am Ms. Coen (: I am one of the seventh grade mathematics teachers! This 2023-2024 school year will be my fifth year in education, my second year as a teacher, and my third year with KCIA. My first two years, I served with City Year (education nonprofit) as a mentor/tutor at Central Middle School in a seventh grade math class and the summer of 2021-2022 I transitioned to The Educator Academy (formally known as Kansas City Teacher Residency) to pursue my career in teaching where I did my residency year at KCIA in sixth grade math. I received my Bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Missouri in Political Science with a minor in International Studies and my Master’s degree in Education – Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Missouri – Kansas City. Some other facts about me is I am biracial – my mom is born and raised in the Philippines and my dad was born and raised in Kansas City, I play semi-pro slowpitch softball in my free time, watching Chief’s football, watching anime, hanging out with my friends, being a cat mom to Dilly and Spero, and traveling. I am absolutely excited for this school year and can’t wait to get to know your scholars! Go Phoenixes! 😀
