Maddison Coonrod – ELA

I grew up in a military family and have lived all over the United States, but Mississippi is where I spent the most time so I claim The ‘Sip as my home State. I graduated from Mississippi College in 2017 with a Bachelors in Public Relations and a Minor in World Civilizations. While in college I was able to both have an international internship and study abroad. I interned in Mindanao, Philippines and studied abroad in London, United Kingdom. When I graduated university, I completed a literacy research internship during the 2017-2018 school year in Kathmandu, Nepal. Through mutual friends, I met my husband while he was living in India and I was in Nepal. He is originally from Kansas City, so I followed him back to KC. I have lived in KC since 2018 and that’s when I joined KCIA staff as a building sub. Through the encouragement of Mr. David Leone, I worked to obtain my certification in teaching English grades 5-12. I have worked teaching 7th grade ELA since 2020 and I love it so much! I am in my “grandma era” even though my daughter will be turning one this fall; my hobbies are reading, gardening, and knitting. I also continue to love learning and am currently pursuing a LETRS certification. You can find me on my off days reading to my daughter, watching National Geographic documentaries, or using cardboard boxes to build enrichment toys for my kitty, Agatha Christie Coonrod.
