The Kansas City International Academy Cross Country team for the Fall 2022 season was led by Coach Erin Opara and Coach Megan Jefferson.
The Phoenixes saw great success with a record number of athletes setting personal bests throughout the season. Runners Aline Kitungano, Jacqueline Bien Venue, and Sah’Kyra Williams made KCIA history by becoming the first female athletes to place in the top 10 at an interscholastic sporting event! 8th-grade runner Amani Esisombe also made history by posting KCIA’s first ever race CC race win. Esisombe went on to win 4 consecutive interscholastic races, including his respective race at the final outing of the Fall season.
The coaches are looking forward to next season and are excited to see how the program continues to grow! Several 6th grade runners have already demonstrated excellent commitment to the CC Team, including Ali Abdirahman, who became the first KCIA 6th grader to place in a meet. The dedication of all runners is set to ensure that KCIA continues to be a noteworthy competitor in contests across the metro.
