My name is Talia Halfon, and I am a Family Resource Coordinator at Kansas City International Academy. I began working in education as a math teacher in Uganda in 2012. I later spent a year teaching 4th grade in Kansas City and another year as a middle school writing teacher here at Kansas City International Academy. I then transitioned into doing community work in Denver, Colorado. I worked in the Denver Public School District’s Family and Community Engagement Office, connecting families to resources. Later I worked at Lutheran Family Services in their Office for Refugees and Asylees where I worked with new arrival families doing case management, employment navigation and housing coordination. These two roles, led me to my new position as a Family Resource Coordinator here at KCIA. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in International Affairs and French from the University of Colorado, Boulder. I later earned my Master’s Degree in Secondary Education from the University of Missouri in 2018, and my Masters of Social Work from the University of Denver in the spring of 2020. When I am not working, I spend as much time as I can outside, with my dog. I also enjoy traveling, cooking and reading. I can’t wait to see what this year brings at KCIA!
