Lauren Weeks – ELA

My name is Lauren Weeks, and I am the sixth grade English Language Arts (ELA) teacher. Back in 2009, I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from the University of Missouri- Kansas City, and I worked with a college for six years as a Financial Aid Coordinator and then a Compliance Coordinator. I realized my true passion was teaching and decided to go back to school in 2014. In December of 2016, I graduated from the University of Central Missouri with my Master’s Degree in teaching and my certification to teach English Language Arts. I started working at KCIA two days after I graduated, and now this is my 6th year with KCIA! During my time at KCIA, I have coached cross country and Girls on the Run, served as the teacher representative for the middle school student council, and in 2021 I was selected by my peers as Middle School Teacher of the Year! The ELA department at KCIA adopted a new program called Wit and Wisdom a few years ago, and I am so excited to see how the children continue to grow, learn and challenge themselves with this engaging and rigorous program. I am married to my husband, Kyle, and we have two beautiful little girls, Maddie (6 years) and Katelyn (2 years). When I do get some free time, I love to read, make TikToks, walk, go to the movies, craft, and hang out with family and friends. I am so excited for another fantastic year at KCIA!
