Hello! My name is Kimberly (or Kim is fine, too), and this is my 10th year working as an educator and my 2nd at KCIA. I am grateful to be part of a multicultural, internationally focused community that also has the distinction of being Missouri’s first charter school! As a kid, my family moved a lot, so I have lived in 10 different states (including Jalisco, Mexico – where I first began learning Spanish)! In 2008 I graduated from the University of Florida, where I earned a bachelor’s degree in English with minors in Education and African Studies. Afterward I broadened my experience by working a few different jobs in English language education and place-based community organizing. In 2012 I moved to the Bronx to join the NYC Teaching Fellows, and in 2014 I graduated from City College of NY with a master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. In 2015 I relocated to Kansas City to live near my parents and siblings. I LOVE teaching and learning from multilingual middle schoolers in the Heartland! When not at work, I enjoy gardening, community organizing, serving on the Friends of Kaw Point Park Board, talking with well-seasoned elders (like my grandmother), and studying practical skills (like herbalism and carpentry).
