Joseph Krohn – Art

Greetings! My name is Joe Krohn and I have been a Visual Arts teacher for Kansas City International Academy for 14 years. In 2006 I graduated from the University of Central Missouri with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art Painting. After working in the graphic design field for several years I returned to UCM to complete a Masters Degree in Art Education and arrived here. Through continued learning I have recently acquired my certification in ESL education. In my time teaching I have had the honor of having many talented artists grow in my classroom and share their talents in my classroom. Some have even been recognized for their talents receiving awards from the Missouri Department of Conservation, the Department of Missouri Natural Resources, as well two works being sent to the International Space Station. In my classroom we explore various mediums from drawing to painting to sculpture. 8th grade is exploring building independent skills in a new Production and Entrepreneurship class where they will be learning trades and producing their own brands through printmaking and construction. When I am not exploring art with my students I enjoy creating work of my own in my studio, wood shop and in the open space of the outdoors. I am most at home when I am outdoors and love any activity associated with it, especially in the company of family and friends. Here at KCIA I feel that this class is the gateway to bridge knowledge for our students and where they can show their understanding through creativity. I can’t wait to see what they make next!
