My name is Hannah VanAusdal and this is my eighth year in education. I studied elementary education at Northwest Missouri State University, and was a cohort member of the Institute for Urban Education at UMKC, where I graduated with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Elementary Education. I was a Leading Educators fellow, and have a master’s degree in Educational Administration K-12 from UMKC. I spent my first two years teaching fifth grade in Hickman Mills, and then moved to Pathway Academy charter school where I taught third and fourth grade. After teaching third and fourth grade, I had the joy of being an Instructional Coach at Pathway Academy. I loved working to help develop teachers and to impact student learning. I took one year away from coaching to serve as the Assistant Principal at Hogan Prep. Elementary, but I quickly missed instructional coaching and am thrilled to return to coaching this year at KCIA. While I was a teacher, I had the opportunity to study under Lucy Calkins at the Teacher’s College at Columbia University in New York City. This training formed my love for teaching reading and writing, and my belief in balanced literacy. Spending time with my family and friends is a big part of my life outside of school, along with reading, practicing yoga and following Kansas City sports. I look forward to a great year here at KCIA!
